38-Year-Old Covington Woman in Hurt in Covington Fatal Traffic Crash
Covington, WA (November 22, 2023) On Friday midnight, a 17-year-old girl and a 28-year-old Algona man died in a tragic Wrong-Way Crash on 272nd Street.
According to the Kent Police Department, the fatal traffic crash happened at about 12:04 a.m. on the 15600 block of SE 272nd Street.
Reports say that the Algona man was fleeing King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies who found the man passed out near the Fred Meyer in Covington. Officials say that as deputies inspected the man’s 2006 Nissan Ultima, which was reported stolen, the driver woke up and sped off before deputies could talk to him.
Authorities say that the man drove over a median and a planter box to exit the parking lot, and then fled westbound in the eastbound lanes.
KCSO deputies did not chase the suspect to stay in compliance with Washington state’s pursuit laws.
Meanwhile, Kent police officers, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority firefighters and medics responded to a crash with serious injuries. Police say that that the Nissan collided with a 2005 Chrysler Town Car van with a 38-year-old Covington woman and a 17-year-old girl from Kentlake High School inside.
Officials say that the Algona man and the teen did not survive the collision and were both pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the female driver sustained major injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Police are investigating the fatal crash and have not released additional details at this time.
