1 Person Dead in Tehama County Auto Accident on Highway 36 and Paynes Creek

TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (September 8, 2024) – Friday afternoon, a tragic two-vehicle crash on Highway 36 and Paynes Creek killed one person.

The incident happened on Highway 36, west of Paynes Creek.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an eastbound Nissan veered into the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided with a westbound tractor-trailer combo. Then, both vehicles erupted into flames after the collision.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that the driver of the Nissan died at the scene. Then, officers said the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt in the incident.

Furthermore, the crash closed Highway 36 but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
