1 Person Dead in Santa Barbara Auto Accident on Highway 101 near Old Coast Highway

SANTA BARBARA, CA (November 21, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, a tragic two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Old Coast Highway killed one person.

The incident happened at around 1:25 p.m. on Highway 101 near Old Coast Highway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound 2023 gray Kia veered to the left for still unknown reasons and collided with a 2010 Mercedes. Then, the force of the crash pushed the Kia into the slow lane and the path of the Mercedes, causing the Mercedes to crash down a 300-foot embankment onto its roof. Also, the KIA continued traveling northbound before crashing into the concrete center divider and overturned.

Moreover, responders confirmed that the driver of the Mercedes died in the crash. Also, the KIA driver, 34-year-old Perla Marrero-Chairez, sustained no injuries in the incident.

Furthermore, authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
