Encinitas, CA (July 24, 2024) On Monday afternoon, a pedestrian lost their life after a tragic traffic crash on Interstate 5.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the auto-pedestrian crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, north of Birmingham Drive.

Reports say that a vehicle struck a pedestrian near San Elijo State Beach. Officials say that the pedestrian appears to be a homeless person, authorities pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the fatal pedestrian crash and have not released additional information at this time.
