LIVERMORE, CA (July 18, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, a tragic street race that ended in a crash on Interstate 580 near North Livermore Avenue killed 1 person.

The incident started at around 5:32 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol received reports about a Toyota Camry that was racing a tan-colored Chevrolet Camaro on Interstate 580 westbound near North Livermore Avenue.

According to CHP, the Toyota Camry crashed for still unknown reasons, ejecting a passenger into the roadway. Then, the Toyota driver and second passenger self-extricated from the wreckage and were picked up by a white SUV on the shoulder of Interstate 580 then fled the scene.

Moreover, responders pronounced the ejected passenger, dead at the scene.

Furthermore, officers said that the Toyota Camry driver and a passenger were best described as Hispanic male adults, in their thirties.

At this time, the circumstances involved in the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, authorities ask anyone with details about the driver and the passenger who fled the scene to call the Dublin CHP office at 925-828-0466.
