HAYWARD, CA (April 24, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, a tragic rear-end crash on Interstate 880 and Winton Avenue killed 1 person.

The incident occurred at around 3:13 a.m. on Interstate 880 southbound, north of Winton Avenue.

According to authorities with the California Highway Patrol, a silver sedan traveled at a high speed. Then, it crashed into a tow truck.

The impact ejected the passenger of the sedan from the car and was declared dead at the scene.

Then, authorities arrested the driver of the sedan on suspicion of driving under the influence and manslaughter.

CHP revealed that the driver of the tow truck suffered no injuries in the crash.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
