Tragic Pedestrian Crash on Union Avenue Claims a Life [Bakersfield, CA]

Bakersfield, CA (December 11, 2024) On Wednesday evening, a pedestrian was killed after a horrific pedestrian crash on Union Avenue.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD), the deadly incident happened at about 9:18 p.m. at Union Avenue and Brundage Lane.

Reports say that a pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles Monday night in Bakersfield.

Authorities ay that one driver was arrested for suspected DUI.

Officers arrived to find a man with severe injuries after being hit while crossing Union Avenue outside of a crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police determined that a white Toyota sedan traveling southbound on Union Avenue struck the man first. Shortly after, a white Ram pickup truck, also heading southbound, hit him again.

The Toyota driver fled the scene but was later located at a residence in southeast Bakersfield. Officers arrested the driver on DUI and hit-and-run charges. The Ram driver initially left the area but returned to cooperate with the investigation. Police confirmed this driver was not impaired and released him pending further investigation.

Union Avenue, where the crash occurred, is a four-lane road with a 40 mph speed limit, bordered by commercial properties.

The pedestrian’s identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
