MERCED, CA (December 22, 2024) – Friday night, a tragic head-on crash on Interstate 5 near Highway 165 killed two people.

The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 5, south of Highway 165 and south of Los Banos.

According to reports, a southbound Jeep veered across the center median into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Dodge. Then, the force of the crash ejected a woman and an infant inside the jeep.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that both the woman and the baby died from their injuries. Also, the male driver of the Dodge and the woman sustained major injuries, while a girl inside the Dodge was not hurt in the incident.

Furthermore, authorities believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
