1 Person Dead in Merced County Auto Accident on Interstate 5 and State Route 165

MERCED COUNTY, CA (December 26, 2024) – Friday night, a tragic head-on crash on Interstate 5 and State Route 165 killed one person.

The incident happened around 6:24 p.m. on Interstate 5 and State Route 165.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a southbound 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the grass median into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500. Then, the force of the crash ejected a female passenger and an infant into the roadway.

Moreover, responders pronounced the ejected woman, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics rushed the infant and two occupants of the Dodge to a local hospital with major injuries. Also, the driver of the Jeep sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Furthermore, officers believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued investigating the crash.
