San Diego, CA (July 31, 2024) – On Wednesday, one person died in a crash on Interstate 8.

Multiple vehicles struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 8 in San Diego’s College Area, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

The fatal incident was reported around 11:55 p.m. on eastbound I-8 near College Avenue. 

Responding officers found the pedestrian deceased on the roadway and an unoccupied SUV parked in the center divide. 

The drivers of the vehicles that hit the pedestrian had pulled over and waited for authorities to arrive. 

It remains unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway. 

The response to the collision resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes in the area, causing a traffic backup on I-8.
