Tragic Auto-Pedestrian Crash on SH 71 Kills Woman [Bastrop, TX]

Bastrop, TX (September 23, 2024) On Saturday morning, a woman lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in an auto-pedestrian crash on SH 71.

According to the Bastrop Police Department (BPD), the fatal crash happened at about 11:29 a.m. on the 700 block of SH 71 East.

Reports say that a woman was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of SH 71 in Bastrop.

Authorities say that the woman was crossing the main lanes when the vehicle hit her, Bastrop Police and Fire Department crews responded to the scene.

Emergency crews attempted CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved did not report any injuries, and no further injuries or damages were noted.

The crash temporarily shut down eastbound SH 71 at TX 304 for two hours, but the road has since reopened. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity, pending notification of her next of kin.
