San Diego County, CA (January 30, 2024) On Sunday evening, a driver suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital after a traffic crash on Interstate 5.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the high-speed crash happened at about 6 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hollister Street.

Reports say that 2 vehicles were racing, when the Mercedes exiting I-5 crashed into a Toyota Yaris stopped at a red light.

Authorities say that the impact of the collision sent the vehicles into the nearby Circle K gas station in the Nestor neighborhood.

Moreover, one of the vehicles struck a pole at the Circle K, causing water to spew out onto the roadway.

San Diego Fire-Rescue and the San Diego Police Department responded to the incident.

Medics rushed the Toyota driver to the hospital, officials say that the patient suffered a brain bleed and a hip fracture.

Police are investigating the high-speed crash and have not released additional information at this time.
