According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal accident happened at about noon near Northgate Boulevard.

Reports say that the tragic accident in North Sacramento claimed the life of a cyclist on Thursday.

Officials say that the fatal collision occurred around noon near Northgate Boulevard and Del Paso Boulevard, close to Highway 160.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was traveling northbound on Northgate Boulevard toward Del Paso Boulevard. He was reportedly riding in what might have been the bicycle lane, though that section of Northgate lacks a designated bike lane. Nearby, the Sacramento Northern Bikeway offers a safer route for cyclists.

At the same time, a man in his 20s was driving a Ford Bronco northbound on the same road. According to CHP, the cyclist veered into the SUV’s path.

The impact launched the cyclist onto the SUV’s hood, shattering the windshield. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The SUV driver was unhurt and remained at the scene to cooperate with authorities.
