According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal incident happened at about 11 a.m. near Wardlow Road,

Reports say that the deadly crash involved a box truck and a big rig on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Long Beach.

Authorities say that the collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday near Wardlow Road, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene.

Emergency responders confirmed that Deras died at the scene. The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed temporarily as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash.
