Frightening Traffic Collision on Roosevelt Avenue Injures Bicyclist [Oxnard, CA]

Oxnard, CA (December 14, 2024) On Friday morning, a 44-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries after a brutal traffic collision on Roosevelt Avenue.

According to the Oxnard Police Department (OPD), the traffic accident happened at 7:55 a.m. at the intersection with First Street.

Reports say that a cyclist sustained critical injuries after a vehicle struck him Friday morning in Oxnard’s La Colonia neighborhood.

Authorities say that the collision occurred at 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of First Street and Roosevelt Avenue, involving a 2022 Toyota Camry.

Police say that the 44-year-old cyclist, an Oxnard resident, was riding a fixed-gear bicycle without brakes westbound on First Street when a northbound vehicle hit him, throwing him off the bike. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The 20-year-old driver of the Camry, also from Oxnard, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Emergency responders transported the injured cyclist to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.

Authorities closed the intersection for about two and a half hours to investigate the crash, redirecting traffic around the area. Police had received no updates on the cyclist’s condition by Friday evening.
