Tragic Traffic Collision on Acacia Avenue Kills Hemet Worker [Hemet, CA]

Hemet, CA (December 6, 2024) On Thursday morning, a Hemet Department of Public Works employee was hurt after a disastrous traffic collision on Acacia Avenue.

According to the Hemet Police Department (HPD), the suspected DUI crash happened at about 8 a.m. near Kirby Street.

Reports say that a suspected drunken driver fatally struck a Hemet Department of Public Works employee who was sitting in a parked municipal vehicle.

Authorities say that the collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m., just west of Acacia Avenue and Kirby Street.

Hemet Police Department stated that the driver of a compact car, traveling westbound on Acacia Avenue, crashed into the municipal truck.

Paramedics and officers arrived quickly and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the worker’s identity.

Police detained the suspected driver and transferred custody to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, as the case involves a municipal vehicle.

Investigators later confirmed the driver was under the influence. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
