Eastmont High School Student Injured in Crosswalk Accident in East Wenatchee

Wenatchee, WA (September 20, 2024) On Tuesday morning, a student from Eastmont High School sustained injuries after a traffic accident on Grant Road.

According to East Wenatchee Police, the student was struck while walking in a crosswalk on their way to school around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Grant Road and North Georgia Avenue.

Reports the vehicle involved was traveling at approximately 30 mph when it struck the teen. The impact was strong enough to throw the student over 20 feet from the crosswalk onto Grant Road. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening, though the collision was significant.

Police attributed the accident to visibility issues caused by the rising sun. Officials emphasized the importance of drivers exercising caution during early morning hours when sunlight can impair vision. Drivers are urged to slow down significantly in school zones, especially when driving eastward toward the airport during this time of year.

Pedestrians are also encouraged to take extra care when crossing busy streets, particularly during the morning when sun glare affects visibility for drivers.

It is unclear if the driver was cited or faces any charges related to the incident.

Drivers, please be mindful of the dangers posed by bright morning sunlight, especially in school zones. Reduce your speed, use your hand to shield the sun, and always ensure crosswalks are clear before proceeding. Pedestrians, be extra cautious when crossing streets during the morning hours, particularly when facing eastbound traffic. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.
