1 Person Injured After Crash on Interstate 10 in Chiriaco Summit

Chiriaco Summit, CA (April 5, 2024) – One person sustained injuries in a crash on Interstate 10 on Friday.

 The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on the westbound side of I-10, just east of Box Canyon Road, located roughly halfway between Coachella and Desert Center, the California Highway Patrol reported. 

The driver seemingly lost control, causing the fully loaded big rig to tip onto its side in the center divider. Initial reports did not indicate involvement of other vehicles.

At the time, winds were blowing at speeds of 20 to 30 mph in the area, though it remained unclear whether weather played a role in the accident. 

The truck had two people inside the cab, including a trainee driver who sustained head and arm injuries, according to the CHP. 

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics were treating him, while the other occupant remained uninjured.

The nature of the cargo and the extent of its damage were not immediately disclosed. 

Investigators were looking into the cause of the crash.
