Toyota Driver Beatriz Curiel Dies in Highway 99 Collision [Live Oak, CA]

Live Oak, CA (October 8, 2022) – On September 17, a Toyota Camry driver, Beatriz Curiel, died in a Highway 99 collision.

It was about 4:24 p.m. when the fatal collision took place at the intersection with Ivy Street.

“Upon arrival, deputies found a red Jeep Cherokee and a brown Toyota Camry with major damages and blocking the roadway,” responding officers said. “Sutter County Fire Department and medical personnel arrived on scene and attended to the drivers of each vehicle who were the only occupants involved.”

Unfortunately, Beatriz Curiel died at the scene of the accident while the paramedics rushed the Jeep Cherokee driver, 25-year-old Esmeralda Perez, to a hospital with non-fatal injuries.

Moreover, Sutter County detectives investigated the Highway 99 collision. According to the statements of witnesses and surveillance footage, it was determined Esmeralda Perez was driving recklessly over twice the speed limit when she collided with Beatriz Curiel‘s vehicle.

“There were other determining factors and evidence indicating Esmeralda Perez was driving in a negligent and unlawful manner. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor,” officials allege.

The authorities arrested Perez and booked her on Thursday into Sutter County Jail for vehicular manslaughter with bail set at $100,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 10 at 3 p.m.
