Hit-and-Run Driver Wanted after Fatal Pedestrian Collision near South Central Avenue
COMPTON, CA (September 4, 2018) – A tow truck driver was killed late Tuesday evening following a hit-and-run crash on 91 Freeway. The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately released.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 11:55 PM near South Central Avenue. The victim was assisting a motorist with a disabled Mercedes sedan when a silver Honda Pilot drifted into the right shoulder and struck him.
The man sustained fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead on the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, a 1-year-old child was hospitalized after receiving possible eye injuries from the shattered glass. The Honda driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident and the hit-and-run driver’s whereabouts to contact the CHP at (310) 516-3355. No further details were provided to the public, as an investigation is ongoing.
