Toddler Hospitalized in Interstate 70 Collision [Cooper County, MO]

Three Injured in Cooper County Single-Vehicle Crash on I-70

(November 8, 2024) On Thursday, 3 people, including a toddler were hurt after the Interstate 70 collision.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the horrific crash happened on I-70 near mile marker 102.

Reports say that the crash unfolded when a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia, traveling eastbound, changed lanes near a construction zone.

The truck veered off the road, skidded, and overturned after the driver—a 41-year-old woman from Little Elm, Texas—overcorrected.

Moreover, the truck struck the median cable, blocking westbound traffic, while its detached towed unit ended up in the eastbound lanes.

Emergency responders transported the driver, who sustained serious injuries, to University Hospital. A 2-year-old boy with moderate injuries and a 43-year-old man with minor injuries were also taken to the hospital. None of the individuals were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

In the United States, over 38,000 people lose their lives to traffic accidents every year. And countless others suffer serious injuries that change their lives forever. But these tragedies are preventable. By practicing safe driving habits, we can reduce accidents and save lives.

Remember, you are part of a shared community every time you step onto the road, whether as a driver, cyclist, or pedestrian. Let’s all do our part to stay safe, stay focused, and be responsible on the road.

This incident highlights the critical importance of using safety devices, such as seatbelts, to prevent severe injuries in vehicle crashes. Always buckle up, no matter your age or seat position.
