1 Person Hospitalized in Humboldt County Auto Accident on US 101 and Spy Rock Road
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (December 16, 2024) – On Friday, Todd McKay was involved in an alarming vehicle crash on US 101 and Spy Rock Road.
The incident happened on US 101 and Spy Rock Road.
According to CHP Garberville, a northbound Toyota 4-Runner hydroplaned and ran off the highway. Then, the vehicle drove up an embankment, rolled over onto its roof, and slid into the southbound lane where it collided with a Toyota Rav4.
Moreover, both vehicles crashed down an embankment into Rattlesnake Creek.
Furthermore, two off-duty volunteer firefighters who witnessed the incident pulled over and extricated the driver of the vehicle, identified as 56-year-old McKay, and his son to safety. Then, off-duty firefighter Abram Hill helped two more children from the vehicle. Also, off-duty firefighters Barrett Thomas and Abram Hill noticed that a 4-year-old boy was not breathing and performed CPR.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the 4-year-old to Howard Memorial Medical Center and then to UC Davis Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. Also, authorities confirmed that Todd McKay and the other children sustained minor injuries in the incident.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the CHP continued investigating the crash.
