5 Seriously Injured in DUI 7-Vehicle Pileup on Highway 180 at Temperance Avenue
FRESNO, CA (March 3, 2019) – A 19-year-old driver was arrested following a DUI chain-reaction crash Sunday evening on Highway 180 in Fresno.
The crash happened just before 8:00 p.m. just East of Temperance Avenue and involved seven vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda was speeding when it rear-ended a slower car. The vehicle then careened into westbound traffic and collided with multiple vehicles.
A total of five people were seriously injured as a result of the crash. One of the patients, a young girl, was rushed to Valley Children’s Hospital with brain injuries.
The Honda driver, Timothy Butler of Citrus Heights, was believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs. Toxicology tests will determine what the substance was.
Butler will be booked into jail when he is released from Community Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
Investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
