Authorities Investigate E Broadway Avenue Collision
Spokane, WA (January 27, 2024) – Officer Tim Clanin sustained injuries following a DUI crash on E Broadway Avenue Wednesday night.
Spokane Valley deputies responded before 8 p.m. to a traffic accident between North Fancher Road and North Havana Street.
The emergency responders located the woman lying on the ground and provided medical aid before they transported her to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Then at about 9:35 p.m., 63-year-old Raymond Jones was driving a Saturn Vue east on Broadway Avenue and slammed into the passenger side of a police car which had its emergency lights activated. The patrol car was blocking the road for the authorities were investigating the initial crash.
Immediately, the medical team provided Jones and Clanin with medical aid. Clanin has since been released from the hospital.
Officers at the scene said Jones had a strong odor of intoxicants. They said he is a felon with prior DUI convictions from more than 10 years ago, the sheriff’s office said. Also, a breath sample determined his blood alcohol level at 0.19 and 0.17, over the legal limit of 0.08.
Additionally, a deputy estimated Jones’ vehicle was traveling about 60 mph before the crash.
Police booked Jones into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of DUI and intimidating a public servant.
Let’s Avoid Traffic Accidents
When driving, it is important to follow all driving laws and the conditions of the road. If you see any vehicle or driver that looks dangerous, keep your distance. If you see a vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes, following too closely, or traveling at a higher rate of speed, move over a few lanes and get out of their way.
Drive defensively to ensure the safety of surrounding vehicles and to avoid incidents like the crash on E Broadway Avenue.
