Thuyet Than Dead, Three Others Injured after Santa Ana Car Accident
SANTA ANA, CA (October 14, 2019) — A driver identified as Thuyet Than, 83, of Alison Viejo died after a car accident on Saturday, October 12.
According to Santa Ana police, the fatal incident happened at 9:58 a.m. at North Susan Street and Westminster Boulevard.
Video surveillance showed a silver 2004 Honda Civic driven by Than was stopped on Susan Street while facing north on Westminster Boulevard. After that, it slowly entered the intersection to make a left turn then the vehicle completely stopped in the number 2 lane.
A woman in a burgundy 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee drove safely in the number 2 lane on Westminster. She tried to avoid the crash by veering right. However, she struck the driver’s side of the Honda, police stated. Both vehicles came to rest in the southeast corner of the intersection.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters discovered Than trapped in the driver’s seat. They used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate him, police stated. He suffered major upper-body injuries. They took him to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he died.
The driver of the SUV and two young children exited their vehicle. They suffered minor injuries to their heads and arms. Paramedics brought them to Garden Grove Hospital, police stated.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have played a role in the incident.
