39-Year-Old Woman Dead after Three-Vehicle Crash on Avenue 56 in Porterville

Porterville, CA (May 18, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, a 39-year-old female driver died in a three-vehicle crash on Avenue 56.

The fatal three-vehicle crash on Avenue 56 in Porterville happened around 5:05 a.m. on May 18. 

CHP said the collision involved three vehicles. A 59-year-old Rodolfo Zamora, of Delano, CA, was driving a 2011 Freightliner, eastbound on Avenue 56, west of Road 168, at a stated speed of 40 to 45 miles per hour.

A 61-year-old Antonio Barietagonzalez, of Earlimart, CA, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet, eastbound on Avenue 56, directly behind the Freightliner when Barietagonzalez attempted to pass the Freightliner, utilizing the westbound traffic lane.

Then a 39-year-old female was driving a 2014 Honda, westbound on Avenue 56, west of Road 168, at an undetermined speed.

Barietazonzalez observed headlights and attempted to return to the eastbound lane when he collided with the Honda, where the force of the collision pushed the Chevrolet into the left side of the Freightliner.

Officers said that following the incident, the Chevrolet came to rest on its wheels in a pistachio grove before catching fire.

Baritagonzalez got out of the Chevrolet by himself and waited for help on the shoulder. The Honda’s driver was injured and died after becoming stuck in the driver’s seat.

The crash is under investigation, according to the police, and there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved at this time.
