Three Hurt, Tarmo Hannula Arrested in Santa Cruz Suspected DUI Accident
SANTA CRUZ, CA (March 20, 2019) – Three people suffered injuries after a suspected drunk driver struck a signpost that fell on them on Saturday, March 16.
The collision occurred on East Cliff Drive at Assembly Avenue at about 6:30 p.m.
The Santa Cruz CHP said that the 65-year-old Tarmo Hannula was driving eastbound on East Cliff Drive when his vehicle left the road.
Hannula first struck a parked car. After that, his vehicle crashed into a signpost that fell and hit three pedestrians.
Paramedics brought the three pedestrians from Lathrop ranging in age from 14 to 49-years-old to Dominican Hospital with moderate injuries.
The CHP rushed to the scene and arrested Hannula for suspicion of DUI causing injury.
Authorities identified Hannula as a staff photographer and reporter on the Register-Pajaronian news outlet.
The incident is still under investigation.
