Three Injured, Phillip Lujan Arrested in Vehicle Crash on Belmont Avenue [Fresno, CA]

42-Year-Old Phillip Lujan Apprehended in Belmont Avenue Crash

 
Fresno, CA (April 10, 2021) – On Friday, police arrested 42-year-old Phillip Lujan in a vehicle crash on Belmont Avenue wherein three people were injured.
 
The incident took place at about 12:42 a.m. near the Cedar Avenue intersection.
 
Officers responded to a home violence report at the 4400 block of East Donner Avenue. Lujan was leaving home as the authorities drove up. He drove to Wishon Avenue in the Tower District where an officer tried to make a traffic stop.
 
However, he sped away and the officer did not pursue.
 
He headed east on Highway 180 at a high speed with lights out. Then, Lujan exited Clovis Avenue and drove west on Belmont Avenue at a speed of 100 mph. Still, he did not have lights. His location was tracked by a helicopter.
 
Later on, at Cedar Avenue, his vehicle crashed with a southbound Honda Civic with a force that knocked the engine block from the second car.
 
Unfortunately, the Honda occupants incurred moderate injuries. Firefighters extracted the driver from the vehicle.
 
Similarly, Lujan suffered moderate injuries.
 
Moreover, officers said it was not immediately clear if Lujan was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
 
Meanwhile, the impact of the crash scattered car parts across four traffic lanes.
 
Officers arrested Lujan for charges of domestic violence, reckless driving, and felony evading.
