Modesto Crash Involving Stolen Car Leaves 3 Injured
MODESTO, CA (November 24, 2019) – Three people were injured following a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Modesto, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 3:00 p.m., at Woodland Avenue and Diablo Avenue.
Before the crash, an officer spotted a Honda Civic that was recognized as stolen. The officer attempted a traffic stop.
The driver pulled over, but then got out and ran. During the foot chase, the suspect circled back, got into the Civic again and drove off, according to police.
Officers began to look for the stolen car, and about a minute later heard the report of the crash.
The suspect was reportedly heading northbound on Diablo when he ran through a stop sign and entered the Woodland intersection at high speed. He then struck a westbound Honda Accord occupied by two men. The impact left both cars on the property of a home at the northeast corner of the intersection.
The suspect was handcuffed before being extricated from the Civic, in which he was pinned. At least one of the men in the Accord was also pinned in.
All three men were later taken by ambulances to hospitals for treatment. There was no immediate word on the severity of their injuries, but all were conscious at the scene.
Further investigation of the crash is underway.
