Yakima Fatal DUI Crash
Yakima, WA (September 02, 2021) – On Tuesday, three people lost their lives, and a young child suffered severe injuries in a 48th Avenue DUI crash.
Officers responded to the accident scene at about 11:18pm at the intersection with West Nob Hill Boulevard.
Investigating officers said a 1994 Ford Escort driven by a 20-year-old man from Yakima was speeding north on 48th Avenue ran the red light.
As a result, the Escort collided into an eastbound 2007 Mitsubishi Galant.
The authorities said a 23-year-old male passenger in the escort and 19-year-old man in the Mitsubishi, both died at the accident scene.
Additionally, responders took a 20-year-old female passenger in the Mitsubishi to the hospital where she died.
Moreover, a 5-year-old girl who was in the vehicle suffered injuries. Rescuers took her to Yakima Valley Memorial and then Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Officers said she is now in stable condition.
Also, the Mitsubishi driver suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.
Paramedics took the Ford driver to the hospital for suffering severe injuries.
Investigating officers consider intoxicants and speed as factors in the fatal crash.
Police said the Escort driver will be charged with Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault as soon as he is well to be booked into jail.
Meanwhile, the authorities withheld the names of the people involved pending the notification of family.
