Thomias Edward Smith of Carmichael Killed in Cessna Crash north of Kneeland Airport [Kneeland, CA]

Kneeland, CA (July 26, 2024) –  Cessna pilot Gabriel Joshua Kulp, 49, of Grass Valley, and passenger, Thomias Edward Smith, 60, of Carmichael, were killed in a plane crash north of the Kneeland Airport.

Cal Fire personnel arrived at the scene and located the wreckage in a steep ravine north of the airstrip. 

Kulp and Smith were found in the wreckage and were declared deceased at the crash scene. The victims worked for Amentum Aviation, a contractor for Cal Fire. 

FAA officers said the plane traveled from Sacramento-McClelland Airport. 

The  Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office deputies, fire services and Emergency Medical Services responded to the collision.

“As you can imagine with something like this there is very sensitive information and we want to make sure that everything is accurate before it gets released, but in the effort of transparency as soon as we feel comfortable with the accuracy of it, then we will definitely release it,” statement from Humboldt County Undersheriff, JD Braud.
