62-Year-Old San Bernardino Man Fatally Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident near Date Street
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (May 31, 2018) – A man was killed Thursday evening after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Del Rosa Avenue. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 62-year-old Thomas Peter Shierts, a resident of San Bernardino.
The collision took place at about 10:30 PM in the 2700 block of Del Rosa Avenue, near Date Street. Shierts was on the west side of the road when he attempted to cross to the east portion of the street and was hit by a southbound vehicle.
Shierts was transported to the St Bernardine Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead by the emergency department.
The driver fled from the scene, leaving the injured man in the road, according to reports. Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored, small, and newer 4-door vehicle. There is no description of the hit-and-run driver at this time.
