Semi-Truck Fatally Hit Cyclist at Highway 59 and West Olive Avenue in Merced
MERCED, CA (September 26, 2019) — A bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon in a collision with a big rig at Highway 59 and West Olive Avenue.
The Merced police said they received a call about the collision at about 1:16 p.m.
A man was riding a bicycle northbound on Highway 59. He was crossing the intersection of West Olive Avenue on the right side of the road. At the same time, a 2013 International tractor-trailer was also northbound on the highway. When the semi-truck turned right on a green light onto West Olive Avenue, it collided with the bicyclist.
Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The truck driver, 57-year-old Thomas Moreno, remained at the scene. He was cooperative according to the officers.
