52-Year-Old Thomas Jancek Hit and Killed by Tow Truck in Walnut Creek
WALNUT CREEK, CA (June 22, 2019) – A man died following a pedestrian crash early Saturday morning in Walnut Creek.
The fatal crash happened around 1:00 a.m. on northbound 680 Freeway near Main Street and Treat Boulevard.
Initial reports indicated the man was walking on the freeway when he was hit by a tow truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued in the area, temporarily closing all lanes of traffic while investigators cleared the scene.
The tow truck driver stopped and cooperated with authorities.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Monday as Thomas Jancek, 52, of Walnut Creek.
Investigators are waiting toxicology tests on Jancek to determine why he was on the freeway.
