Dianne Pierce Injured in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Oakdale
OAKDALE, CA (July 1, 2019) – A man was killed following a motorcycle crash Monday evening in Oakdale.
The crash happened around 7:13 p.m., at the intersection of Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Rice Road. Dispatchers arrived shortly after.
According to reports, 38-year-old Thomas Butler of Waterford was riding his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle north on the highway. As he approached the intersection, a black Chevrolet SUV, driven by 61-year-old Dianne Pierce of Denair, pulled into his path.
Pierce was at the Rice Road stop sign, preparing to turn left to head south on the highway. She admitted that she was blinded by the sun when she turned onto the highway, failing to see Butler.
The vehicles eventually collided, ejecting Butler from his bike as a result. His helmet came off, causing him fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact of the collision.
The SUV caught fire, however Pierce was able to escape. She was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for further treatment of moderate injuries.
Part of the Oakdale-Waterford Highway were closed as emergency responders worked on the scene. It is about halfway between Oakdale and Waterford.
Further investigation of this fatal incident is underway.
