72-year-Old Man Dies after Pickup Truck Plunges into Creek at Alpine and Heritage Roads
LA HONDA, CA (February 3, 2019) – A man was killed following a rollover crash Sunday morning in rural San Mateo County.
The fatal crash was reported at 7:45 a.m. near the area of Alpine and Heritage roads.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota pickup truck went off the road and over a 60 feet embankment, causing it to overturn, trapping the driver as it sunk into a rain-swollen Alpine creek.
A passerby spotted the vehicle and alerted a San Mateo County Parks ranger.
Firefighters along with emergency crews were dispatched to the scene and pulled the vehicle out of the water, up the embankment and extricated the driver’s dead body.
The deceased was later identified as Terry Smith, 72, of La Honda.
It is also unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
