Watsonville Man Identified as Man Killed in Lost Hills Crash
LOST HILLS, CA (July 7, 2019) – Authorities identified 72-year-old Teodomiro Torres Ponce of Watsonville as the man killed in a crash near Lost Hills Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 3:26 PM. 22-year-old Thomas Schaiterer took his eyes off the road as he drove east on Highway 46. When he looked back, he noticed the stopped traffic and attempted to avoid collision by turning left. There, his car hit Ponce’s oncoming vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Ponce to Kern Medical Center, where he later died at 6:56 PM. Meanwhile, his passenger, identified as 66-year-old Yolanda Ponce, suffered moderate injuries. Schaiterer suffered major injuries and required hospitalization for treatment.
Investigators ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the collision. It is unknown whether or not charges will be filed against the driver. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
