1 Dead and 1 Hospitalized in Clark County Accident on 139th Street and 72nd Avenue
CLARK COUNTY, WA (November 17, 2020) – Saturday evening, a crash on 139th Street and 72nd Avenue killed a teenager and injured another one.
According to Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a GMC pickup truck and a 2007 Honda Civic coupe. The incident happened at the intersection of Northeast 139th Street and Northeast 72nd Avenue at about 9:00 p.m.
Responders rushed the 16-year-old driver of the Honda Civic and a 14-year-old female passenger to a hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The 14-year-old girl later died of her injuries.
Meanwhile, 37-year-old Timothy McCaughey, driver of the pickup truck suffered no injuries in the crash. Furthermore, he remained at the scene to cooperate with the authorities.
Investigation revealed that the westbound Honda Civic traveling on Northeast 139th Street pulled out into the path of the pickup truck. The truck struck the civic just behind the driver’s door.
East and west traffic on Northeast 139th Street is controlled by a stop sign at the intersection; there is no stop sign for north and south traffic on Northeast 72nd Avenue, and the speed limit is 50 mph, the sheriff’s office said.
The incident is under investigation.
