MERCED COUNTY, CA (March 15, 2021) – On Saturday evening, a teenager sustained injuries after a go-kart crash on 8000 block of Olive Avenue.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 7:15 p.m. Moreover, it occurred in the area of an almond orchard in the 8000 block of Olive Avenue in Winton.
 
CHP Sgt. Danny Bowen revealed that a 15-year-old female driver and 14-year-old female passenger rode a westbound go-kart. Then, for unknown reasons, they lost control and crashed into an almond tree.
 
Furthermore, responders transported the passenger via helicopter to Valley Children’s Hospital after sustaining head lacerations. Authorities confirmed that the airlifted patient has been ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
 
Moreover, CHP said that both the driver and the passenger failed to wear protective gear at the time of the crash.
 
Meanwhile, authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Bowen added.
