16-Year-Old Dies in Fresno Pedestrian Collision on Valentine Avenue
FRESNO, CA (November 7, 2019) — A 16-year-old boy died in a pedestrian accident on Valentine Avenue in Fresno Tuesday night.
The police said a car struck the boy near Shields Avenue at about 6:00 p.m. The victim was with his 14-year-old friend at the time. They were walking northbound on Valentine when a vehicle ran into them.
Reports indicated that the two did not see the car approach. The 16-year-old boy died on impact. However, the victim’s friend did not sustain any injuries, got up, and then called for help.
The police said the 54-year-old driver has been tested for drugs and alcohol. They are trying to determine whether the driver veered off the road and hit the teen or were the two already on the street.
The authorities closed off a dimly lit portion of Valentine Avenue near Shields Avenue following the fatal collision.
Meanwhile, based on jail bookings on Wednesday morning, the Fresno police arrested a 54-year-old man for several felony charges. These include murder and driving drunk, and causing a crash resulting in injury or death.
Whether the two incidents are linked were not immediately clear.
