Police Investigate Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 680 in San Ramon

San Ramon, CA (November 27, 2024) – A 17-year-old San Ramon resident died early Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 680.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. on southbound Interstate 680, just south of the Crow Canyon Road exit. 

Emergency responders pronounced the teen dead at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity pending notification of his family.

The CHP reported that a 63-year-old Richmond woman was driving a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek within the speed limit when the teen moved into her path from the right shoulder of the freeway. 

Despite her attempt to brake, she was unable to avoid hitting him.

Officers located the crash site in the third lane from the far left. While the CHP has not determined why the teen was on the freeway, they are actively seeking witnesses who might provide information about the circumstances leading to the collision.

Following the crash, authorities closed two far-right lanes of the freeway but reopened them by 6:35 a.m.
