16-Year-Old Girl Dies after Five-Vehicle Pileup near Grant Line Road
ELK GROVE, CA (September 23, 2018) – A teen girl was killed early Sunday evening and six others were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 5:55 PM near Grant Line Road. A Toyota Sienna was heading south on the highway when it was rear-ended by a Toyota 4Runner.
The collision, which resulted in a five-vehicle pileup, fatally injured a 16-year-old girl that was sitting inside of the Sienna. She suffered major head and torso injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Five more occupants in the Sienna, including three children, were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the 4Runner also sustained injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be provided once it becomes available.
