Boy Injured in La Jolla Scooter Crash
LA JOLLA, CA (April 14, 2019) – A 15-year-old was struck and injured by a car in a scooter accident on Via La Jolla Drive Sunday morning.
San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said the accident occurred after 11:30 AM at the intersection of Via Mallorca Drive and Via La Jolla Drive.
Authorities identified the vehicle involved as a Honda Civic driven by a 23-year-old man. The Civic was traveling south on Via La Jolla Drive when it ran the red light and struck the teen. In addition, the victim was riding westbound across La Jolla Drive in the crosswalk on a green light. As a result, it collided with the Civic that ran the red light.
First responders were dispatched to the scene. The male teen was seriously injured, according to police. As a result, he sustained a compound fractured ankle. However, there has been no update on his medical status.
No more details regarding the accident have been released as investigations continue.
