Teen Hurt in San Mateo Pedestrian Accident
SAN MATEO, CA (March 12, 2019) – A 15-year-old pedestrian sustained injuries in a pedestrian crash in San Mateo on Thursday, March 7.
The crash happened at around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alameda de las Pulgas and 31st Avenue. The impact of the collision sent the teen traveling about 30 feet across the intersection, police Sgt. Kurt Rodenspiel said.
According to witness statements, it looks like he was on the hood for the better part of the intersection. Then he ended up falling into the street, Rodenspiel stated.
Rodenspiel said that the teen was walking in the crosswalk when he was hit. The motorist remained at the scene when police arrived.
Emergency responders rushed the teen to Stanford Medical Center with injuries. The extent of the teen’s injuries is not immediately released, Rodenspiel said. He added that his parents have been notified of the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation. However, Rodenspiel said that speeding seems to be the cause of the collision.
It is important to always be on the lookout for pedestrians, especially if you are in a populated or residential area. By obeying traffic laws and being cautious of your surroundings, you can prevent unforeseen accidents and keep yourself and others safe on the road.
