Teen Pedestrian Injured After Hit by Pickup Truck in Snelling
SNELLING, CA (May 27, 2019) – A 15-year-old teen sustained injuries in a pedestrian accident at Highway 59 and 4th Street in Snelling Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred at about 3:40 p.m. Authorities said the teen attempted to cross the highway in an eastward direction while trying to catch up to his grandfather. The grandfather had already crossed the road at that time.
A 2015 GMC Sierra driven by 46-year-old Edwin Melo of San Jose slowed down to about 20 mph upon seeing the grandfather cross the road. However, the teen appeared to run out in front of the truck and he was hit.
The teen suffered a broken leg, a major but non-life-threatening injury. Emergency responders took him to the hospital via air ambulance.
California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Zuniga said the incident is still under investigation. Alcohol or drugs were ruled out as factors.
