The crash happened around 2:11 p.m. at the intersection of Cecil Avenue and Reed Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driver was apparently drinking and on Snapchat when his vehicle veered into the path of a pickup truck on Cecil Avenue east of Reed Road.
As a result, the unidentified driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His cellphone was found on his lap.
Paramedics airlifted the front passenger, also 18, to Kern Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Officials found beer cans strewn at the crash site.
Alcohol and distracted driving appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
