Nicholas B. Hart Arrested After Hitting and Killing 91-Year-Old Man While Under the Influence
SANTA BARBARA, CA (January 23, 2018) – 91-year-old Ted Johnson was struck and killed in a DUI pedestrian accident on State Street around 7:30 PM on Tuesday.
Johnson was crossing the Micheltorena Street intersection in Downtown Santa Barbara in a crosswalk, when he was struck by 26-year-old Goleta man, Nicholas B. Hart. Hart was speeding southbound on State St, and was three times the legal limit with an open bottle of alcohol and marijuana in his car
The victim sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Hart had two prior convictions of DUI and a suspended license at the time of the fatal crash. The Santa Barbara Police Department arrested Hart on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, second-degree murder, and driving with a suspended license. His bail is set at one million dollars.
