Fatal Early Morning Crash at Skyfarm and Thomas Lake Harris Drives
SANTA ROSA, CA (July 1, 2019) – A 16-year-old girl was killed in a car accident early Monday morning in Santa Rosa, authorities said.
The crash happened around 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of Skyfarm Drive and Thomas Lake Harris Drive. Three Santa Rosa high school girls were enjoying a summer Sunday night with friends at a popular hangout to watch the sunset in the city’s hilly Fountaingrove neighborhood.
After leaving the group shortly after midnight, the three 16-year-olds who attended Maria Carrillo High School hopped into a Lincoln MKZ sedan. However, the driver failed to negotiate a left turn from steep Skyfarm Drive onto Thomas Lake Harris Drive. As a result, the car traveled up on the sidewalk and over an embankment. After that, the car hit three trees as it spun around before landing along a golf course fairway.
The two teenage passengers, who were not wearing their seat belts, were ejected from the car. As a result, paramedics took both to a hospital. However, one girl did not survive and was declared dead. In addition, authorities listed the other victim in critical condition.
Friends identified the girl who died as Taylor Sorg, an upbeat, caring and dedicated athlete.
The driver suffered minor injuries. In addition, she was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. However, police released the driver to her parents.
The crash closed Thomas Lake Harris Drive between Skyfarm Drive and Lakepointe Circle. In addition, Skyfarm Drive closed between Thomas Lake Harris Drive and Autumn Glen Court for about six hours.
However, an investigation of this incident is ongoing.
No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of Taylor Sorg.
