Mathew Buell Detained for DUI and Hit-and-Run in Lompoc Pedestrian Accident
LOMPOC, CA (June 6, 2019) – A Lompoc taxi driver was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
Authorities responded at the intersection of Ocean Avenue around 10:10 a.m. Dispatchers arrived to the area near E Street shortly after.
Mathew Buell, 30, was taken into custody after allegedly hitting the child. The victim was pushing his bicycle alongside his grandmother in a crosswalk at the time.
The child was not seriously hurt, according to the Lompoc Police Department.
In addition, Buell allegedly left the scene after the collision. However, he returned after witnesses caught up to him and convinced him to go back. After returning, Buell was found to be “very intoxicated,” according to Lompoc Police.
Buell’s charges include driving while impaired causing injury. In addition, he was also charged with fleeing the scene of a collision causing injury. Both are felonies. In addition, he is currently at the Lompoc Jail.
