Bicyclist Tanner Smith Hospitalized After Vehicle Struck Him on Highway 101
Crescent City, CA (July 24, 2020)– A collision between a vehicle and a bicycle on Highway 101 left Tanner Smith injured on Thursday morning.
The incident happened on July 23 at about 11:06 a.m. just north of Dr. Fine Bridge. According to the report, a vehicle driver identified as Jamie Pfau, 47, of Brookings was driving a 2019 Ford Fusion.
Pfau was traveling southbound on US-101 approaching Dr. Fine Bridge.
At the same time, a bicyclist identified as Tanner Smith, 21, of Cameron Park was heading southbound of the bridge. As Pfau approached the bicyclist, she drove onto the shoulder of the road thus, colliding with Smith.
After that, the Ford continued onto the embankment before it overturned. Pfau sustained minor injuries from the incident.
Moreover, Smith suffered moderate injuries as a result. Emergency personnel gave both Pfau and Smith medical assistance. Both of them were also taken to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatments.
Crescent City Fire Protection District, Del Norte Ambulance, California State Parks, Ford Dick Fire, and Caltrans also responded to the incident.
Currently, authorities believed that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash. However, the investigation remains on-going.
